Nancy Steer

Nancy R. Steer (“Nan”) is an experienced civil litigation attorney and skilled legal writer who has litigated for over a decade. For the past six years, she has focused her practice on representing policyholders in first-party property insurance disputes. This was a shift that followed several years defending insurers earlier in her career, affording her a priceless, firsthand view of both sides of these disputes.

Nan was a charter class member of Belmont University College of Law in Nashville, Tennessee, where she served as founding Managing Editor of the Belmont Law Review. After graduating in 2014, she began her practice in insurance defense before joining McWherter, Scott & Bobbitt in 2020. Today, she concentrates her practice on legal research and legal writing, which she has found to be both rewarding and challenging. Nan has found that legal writing is her passion in the law, and she prides herself on her ability to craft compelling, articulate legal arguments for her clients.

Ms. Steer is licensed to practice in Tennessee and Kentucky, admitted to all federal district courts in both states, and admitted to the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. She is a member of the Tennessee Bar Association and the Kentucky Bar Association. Outside of the office, Nan enjoys spending time with her family (she and her daughter are avid Swifties), writing her debut fiction novel, and practicing Pilates. Whether she’s writing a brief or a novel, Nan believes the right words, well-placed, can change the outcome.
